A new standard for smile assessment - focused on overall beauty and naturalness, powered by AI.
About Smile Research
Smile Research is a research organisation specialising in smile beauty assessment. In a world of social media and constant visual noise, it is easy to feel pressure to change a smile quickly, without a clear sense of what that choice may mean over time.
Many conventional assessments lean on one-size-fits-all metrics, which can push people toward an artificial or over-corrected look, but real beauty is rarely that formulaic. That's why we started Smile Research: we studied smiles in depth, drawing on established smile design and orthodontic aesthetic literature, and developed an AI-assisted assessment that looks at overall naturalness and harmonious balance, so people can understand what truly defines an outstanding smile.

What we measure
Eight criteria on PRO, drawn from established smile-aesthetic literature. Three clear grade bands.
01
Naturality
How closely colour, shape, and translucency resemble real, healthy teeth — not simply how white they are.
02
Symmetry
Left-right balance across the smile and face, including how the visual midline reads.
03
Alignment
Straightness, crowding, spacing, and rotation of the visible teeth.
04
Gingival Contour
Gum-line height, curve, and left-right harmony.
05
Proportions
How the visible front teeth relate to one another in size and visual balance.
06
Smile Width
How broad the smile reads, including the buccal corridor.
07
Incisal Edge
The curve and visibility of the upper front-tooth edges when you smile.
08
Tooth Colour
Brightness and whiteness in harmony with skin and lip tone — not simply whiter.
Criteria created based on smile-aesthetic literature. Scores are not a dental examination, diagnosis, or treatment recommendation.
C → B+
Everyday
Pleasant, natural smiles with room to grow in colour, alignment, or balance.
A → A+
Standout
Strong symmetry, clean proportions, and colour people notice.
S → S+
Elite
Rare. Near-flawless proportions and brilliance — the top fraction of smiles.
Research-based
Grounded in smile-design and orthodontic aesthetic literature, not ratios alone.
AI-assisted
A supporting tool for a consistent, beauty-focused reading of your smile.
